My name is Steve Phillips and I’m the founder and managing partner of Phillips Law Offices in Chicago. I went to Loyola University of Chicago Law School and graduated in 1985. I am the former president of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. I’m also a member of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, which I’m particularly proud of because there’s only 500 lawyers in the world who are in the International Academy. What’s rewarding about being an attorney is the ability to help people who have the potential to be bullied by insurance companies. I find it very rewarding that when people come to me and they’ve done nothing wrong, they need someone like me. They need someone on their side to say, you know, insurance company, I want to be treated fairly. I want to be treated for what my losses are, what harm was caused to me. And when they come to me and they say, Mr. Phillips, can you help me? I’ve had all this harm caused to me. I find it very rewarding to be able to help them. When I get a positive verdict or settlement for my client, I get a feeling of both accomplishment and satisfaction. My clients, most of them are hurt, injured very badly. The lives have been turned upside down. And oftentimes I’ll wake up the next morning after I resolve a case for a client who I really like or who really deserves justice. And I have a sense of satisfaction and I have a sense that I’ve really done something to make their life better.
