A deadly crash involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer shut down roads in southern Will County for several hours Tuesday amid slick and hazardous winter conditions, authorities said.

According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, the two-vehicle collision happened around 5:54 a.m. near 104th Avenue and Wilmington-Peotone Road. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while investigators worked for hours to document the crash and manage traffic in the area.

Emergency officials described the incident as major, warning drivers about dangerous road conditions caused by drifting and blowing snow driven by strong winds. Law enforcement urged motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and use extreme caution when traveling through the area.

The roadway between Center Road and Route 45 remained closed for much of the day before reopening shortly before 1 p.m. No additional injuries were confirmed. The victim’s identity is expected to be released by the Will County Coroner’s Office.

Footage from the scene showed a severely damaged car being towed away, with the tractor-trailer stopped off the roadway as crews continued cleanup operations.
