A deadly single-vehicle crash on New Year’s Eve claimed the life of a driver in Chicago’s northwest suburbs, according to authorities. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Route 173, west of Oak Grove Road in the Harvard area. Officials said a Nissan Rogue was traveling westbound when it left the roadway and slammed into a tree. Following the impact, the vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. Investigators noted that weather conditions and possible speeding are believed to have contributed to the crash. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Unit, along with the McHenry County Coroner’s Office, is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
