A 49-year-old woman riding a motorcycle was killed in a crash on DuSable Lake Shore Drive near downtown Chicago late Wednesday night, according to Chicago police. The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. in the 400 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive near Navy Pier.
Police said a 25-year-old woman driving a gray sedan southbound struck the motorcycle rider, identified by loved ones as Mehnoosh Hatam. Hatam was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Friends said she was heading home from work when the crash occurred.
Hatam was a member of Chicago United Riders and founded Illinois Riders Escape. Fellow riders described her as a respected member of Chicago’s motorcycling community who supported female riders and regularly looked out for others.
The 25-year-old sedan driver was not injured and was taken into custody. Police said charges and citations were pending.
