Accident New | Homan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois
Nine people were hospitalized after a sedan driver allegedly ran a red light and triggered a crash involving two CTA buses on Chicago’s West Side Wednesday evening. According to authorities, the collision occurred around 6:42 p.m. near West Lake Street and Homan Avenue when a Subaru sedan traveling eastbound entered the intersection against a traffic signal and struck a southbound No. 82 CTA bus. The impact forced the bus into a second CTA bus traveling north on Homan Avenue, resulting in significant damage to both transit vehicles.
Emergency responders transported nine people to local hospitals following the incident, including seven bus passengers and one CTA bus driver, who was initially reported in critical condition. Officials said the driver of the Subaru suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was cited for multiple violations. Authorities have not yet released the conditions of the injured passengers as the investigation continues.
The crash temporarily disrupted CTA service in the area, with No. 82 buses rerouted in both directions near Homan Avenue and Lake Street while crews worked to clear debris and assess the scene. Officials remained on-site late into the evening to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
