A 77-year-old man died after a Metra train struck a vehicle that had become trapped on the railroad tracks following a crash in Barrington, Illinois, on Friday morning. According to authorities, Barrington police and fire crews responded to the area of Northwest Highway and Hart Road around 11:45 a.m., where three vehicles had been involved in a crash and one ended up stuck on the tracks near Park Lane.
A Union Pacific Northwest Metra train later struck the trapped vehicle. The man inside the vehicle was critically injured and taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that evening. The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Robert Scheurich of Carpentersville. Preliminary autopsy results determined that he died from blunt-force injuries. Barrington police and Metra police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
